Clay, Glazes and Firings included in the cost of the workshop Saturday, April 11th 1:00-5:00pm 629 S. Grove Ave. What is Raku? Raku is a centuries-old Japanese firing technique known for its immediacy, unpredictability, and stunning results. In this process, glowing red-hot pottery is removed directly from the kiln and placed into combustible materials such as sawdust or paper. The sudden flames, smoke, and rapid cooling create dramatic metallic finishes, smoky crackle patterns, and one-of-a-kind surfaces that can’t be replicated. Every firing is unique, making each piece a true original and the experience unforgettable. Raku firing is Saturday, April 25th @ 11:00am. Firings are led by Tyler Important Note on Materials Raku clay MUST be kept completely separate from cone 6 studio clay. Even small amounts of cross-contamination can cause major kiln problems and damage other artists’ work. For this reason, Raku clay and slip may NOT be used during regular class times, and all tools, buckets, and sponges must be rinsed thoroughly after use. Students in violation of this rule will be asked to leave the studio.
