Service Description

Join Slowfire teacher Ms. Belen for a fun and engaging art class where students will learn the fundamentals of ceramics. In Clay Kitchen, students will explore the art of ceramics through the lens of food and the kitchen. Young artists will design and hand-build functional pieces like small bowls, plates, mugs, and utensils — while also creating playful faux foods and imaginative treats made from clay. Throughout the semester, students will learn foundational handbuilding techniques including slab, coil, and sculptural construction. They’ll experiment with texture, carving, surface design, and glazing to bring their creations to life. Whether crafting a tiny ramen bowl, a colorful dessert plate, or a slice of clay cake that looks good enough to eat, students will develop both technical skill and creative confidence. With our intentionally small class size and low student-to-teacher ratio, students receive individualized attention in a supportive and focused studio environment. Led by teaching artist Maisie, Clay Kitchen balances strong technique with imaginative play, empowering students to discover their own artistic voice. This class is perfect for students who love cooking, crafting, and creating with their hands — and who are ready to turn everyday kitchen inspiration into lasting works of art.
