Slowfire offers art enrichment for seniors both on and off-site.
Oak Park: We have dedicated classes for seniors at Slowfire Studios and at the Oak Park Township in Oak Park.
On-the-go: Slowfire teachers offer classes at a handful of senior residential communities in the Chicagoland area. Please inquire if you are interested in Slowfire coming to you!

Slowfire Ceramic Studio believes in Art for All. We strive to make art accessible to people of all age groups, economic backgrounds, and experience levels. Our dedicated staff of artist-teachers work to provide quality foundation based art education, and aim to empower students in their authentic voice/artistry.

Painting, drawing and fibers services available to senior residential communities
7 students or less: $70/hr
8-12 students: $85/hr.
These prices are for consistent, ongoing services. We can bring materials to you for a small fee, or help you order a supply of items to have on hand.

Our staff can customize themes, materials, and curriculum. We work in a variety of mediums: colored pencil, crayon, acrylic, watercolor, oil, pastels, and more.


Ceramics available to senior residential communities
6 people or less: $70/hr
7-10 people: $80/hr
These prices are for consistent, ongoing services.
Materials and firings are an extra fee.

Meet The Teachers

Josslyn Baron
Josslyn holds a BA in both Painting/Drawing and Psychology from Dominican University. Josslyn was a Teaching Assistant to Professor Jeffery Cote de Luna in the Painting Department and a Writing Tutor for the Academic Success Center. Josslyn leads the senior drawing & painting at the Oak Park Township, Oak Park Public Library, and has also assisted with the painting/drawing program at Brookdale Senior Center in Oak Park. Josslyn will soon lead the programs at Belmont Village in Oak Park, IL.

Salma Jimenez
Salma holds a BA in graphic design from Dominican University. Salma has worked as a studio assistant for Noelle Allen in ceramics and interned for the University Ministry Office, designing and creating content for print and digital publishing. Salma led the Ceramics program at Brookdale Senior Center in Oak Park.
