Teen Ceramics Membership

Those difficult adolescent years when you're "too old" for a babysitter, but "too young" to fly through life solo. The expectations placed on your shoulders can be overwhelming, and all the while you are navigating internal change, external change, social pressures and your own personal goals.

Imagine having a space where you felt totally accepted during those years. Slowfire has been offering this space for the past year! Our studio spaces became home away from home for those creative and quirky students who had found "their people" in our space.

Our artisan teachers are all weird, wacky and wonderful adults who were once those awkward tweens/teens too! We remember yearning for a place where we felt we belonged. Our teens can come in and carve out a little space to do their homework, socialize with kids from other grades and schools and/or create!

For fun and to challenge our teen members, Alice hosts a 7 week ceramics challenge and our current one is a juicer. Past challenges have included cake plates, and colanders. Teens who complete the challenges are able to pick a prize from our special vending machine. Favorite prizes have been $10 Brown Cow gift cards and pottery made by our teachers.

Teen members can choose from any number of days of the week to attend and those times are staffed by teachers, so whenever they come, they are learning! Our teachers are Alice, Jeny, Noelle, Maliya, and Tyler.

This Fall we are so excited to have 3 evening options for our teens (Tuesdays 6:30-8:30, Thursdays 7-9pm, and every other Friday 7-9pm) as well as a Wednesday afternoon option and Saturday mornings and afternoons.

Our program is FULL for the Fall but we are offering teen wheel throwing classes and students can build their skills in the meantime. If there is a lot of interest, we will consider opening more days/times to accommodate more teens.

Check out the pictures of our teen members! They have been busy in the studio throwing, trimming, handbuilding, glazing and exploring surface design techniques!

PS. Why is there a picture of cookies? It is one of the favorite snacks we provide for our teens!
