Our campers had an amazing week!
Campers at our Hi Barbie Art and Music camp worked on mixed media projects and created their own disco balls, built Barbie dream houses out of cardboard, and made outfit collages for Barbies. The creative energy was awesome.
Campers made Barbie Dream Pool jewelry dishes and lidded jars in ceramics and our oldest group had a turn on the wheel!
Our Hi Barbie campers learned NEW instruments and songs with Mr. Shane, such as Dance the Night, Pink, Push, What Was I Made For, and I'm just Ken with a special Shake it Off thrown in there. Mr. Shane led the students in learning all kinds of instruments and they collaborated on their songs. Students played the drum kit, keyboards, guitars, and sang!
Campers at our POP Art camp at our Arts District location created Campbell's cans in clay, Keith Harring inspired drawings and ceramic bananas! The children made collages inspired by Jeff Koons, Ceramic Jeff Koons balloon dogs, and Roy Lichtenstein inspired comic books. This group had fabulous outings to the Art Institute of Chicago in our Vincent Van Go van.
Our Baking campers whisked, mixed, folded and baked their way through lava cakes, angel food cake, and cheesecake. Campers made layer cakes with chocolate mousse, strawberry filling, ganache, buttercream and hand made sprinkles. Campers learned how to separate eggs, gently heat chocolate over a bain marie, and how to make fresh whipped cream. It was a super busy, fun filled week!
Campers with Ms. Joss at The Learning Specialist made bird paintings on cardboard and glued them to wall hangings with sticks, strings and beads. Students also did crochet/embroidery and everyone created nature scenes and flowers using new stitch techniques.
Our wheel throwing students learned foundational wheel techniques, made pressed slab plates, and learned how to underglaze and glaze to add surface design elements to their work.
