Students will learn (or continue to learn) the foundational skills of ceramics. This class covers skills such as wedging and handbuilding with small tools. It will delve deeper into use of large tools such as the extruder and the slab roller. Perhaps the most exciting part will be the intro to the wheel or the continuation of the wheel if you have already taken classes! We will take a small mid morning break for snack and a movement break! You may sign up for one week of this camp or all 3 weeks. Each week will improve upon the previous skillsets of the week before if you continue! There will be 3 glaze dates scheduled for late June and early July for students to come back and glaze their work. Because clay has to dry fully before it is fired, and then the kiln takes a few days, students will be offered 3 future dates in late June and early July to come back to glaze their wares! The glazing session is included in the cost of the class! All clay, glazes, and firings included in the cost of the camp. Students should bring an apron and rags to class. Ages 7-10 Taught by Salma and Brie 9am-11:30 AM Min 4 students, max 6 students. All materials (clay & glazes) and associated costs ( clay recycling, kiln firings, and glaze firings) included in the cost of the camp. With a small ratio of teacher to student composed of dedicated teachers and professors, the small camp size will be perfect to advance skill sets, while also being mindful of a safe environment. While we teach excellent technique and form, we also aim to empower students in their authentic voice/artistry. Our teaching styles are inclusive and welcoming. We are an LGBTQ+ friendly space.
